The Cape Garden Route is one of the most well known tourist destinations in South Africa and not far from Cape Town, which means that accommodation is sought after throughout the region. In case you're looking for just the right place to stay, I've simplified your search by listing some of the most popular Garden Route towns on this page.

Albertinia Garden Route

Albertinia

Situated between the Indian Ocean in the South and the Langeberg mountain range in the North along the N2 route between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. A peaceful country village which has retained much of the character of a typical late 18th and early 19th century trade outpost. 

George on the Garden Route

George

One of the oldest towns in South Africa and centre of the Garden Route - ideal to explore the area's many variant and diverse scenic wonders. The town is a major accommodation centre with a vast array of facilities on offer to suite every taste and pocket. George also has many historical landmarks.

Knysna on the Garden Route

Knysna

Knysna is one of the best known holiday destinations on the Garden Route. It is situated between lush forests and the shores of the peaceful lagoon. It's most well known attraction is the Heads - two great sandstone cliffs at the mouth of the lagoon which connects the estuary with the sea.

Mossel Bay Garden Route

Mossel Bay

Situated halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Popular in summer as well as an ideal winter retreat. Experiences a mild climate year round. Known as the historical capital of the Garden Route. A rapidly growing tourist destination.

Oudtshoorn Garden Route

Oudtshoorn


A popular Karoo town at the base of the Swartberg mountains. Well known for it's top tourist attraction - Cango Caves, ostrich show farms and crocodile breeding ranch, as well as the annual National Arts festival in March/April. Lots of challenges for the eco-tourist.



Plettenberg Bay Garden Route

Plettenberg Bay

Situated on South Africa's south coast 210 kms from Port Elizabeth and +/- 600 km from Cape Town. Known for it's rivers, beaches and the bay with ideal conditions for all types of watersports including sailing and fishing. Nursery to the endangered Southern Right Whale. Offers a wide range of accommodation.

Tsitsikamma on the Garden Route

Tsitsikamma

Tsitsikamma National Park is internationally recognized for its forests. There you'll find the giant Outeniqua yellowwood which  has survived for millions of years. Tourists, and hikers from all over the world, visit the area which is known for its marine conservation and  rugged, unspoiled coastline. 

Victoria Bay on the Garden Route

Victoria Bay

Victoria Bay  is a small and exclusive almost hidden bay on the Garden Route. It is 3km off the N2 and situated between George and Wilderness.
This little resort comprises a number of cottages clustered around the water front. The gently sloping beach makes bathing safe, and the big waves are ideal for surfing.

Wilderness

The town of Wilderness is situated between the Kaaimans River and the Goukama Nature Reserve. It is bordered by the Outeniqua Mountains. Well known for it's tranquil sea and long beaches.  Wilderness has become an internationally sought after holiday resort.
