Robben Island The island about 10 kms from the Cape Town harbour on which Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for many years together with other political activists during Apartheid times. Book at the Nelson Mandela Gateway ferry terminal at the Waterfront and you get a guided tour of the prison. Give yourself half a day to appreciate the experience. More about Robben Island Table Mountain A natural attraction for most visitors to Cape Town. Bus or taxi transport from Cape Town Station to the lower Cable station. The cableway is closed in poor weather conditions but is usually open late into summer evenings. There is a restaurant and curio shop on the summit. The historic peninsula of rugged land and a feature of the Cape's natural heritage which should not be missed. The cliffs of Cape Point were originally sighted by the first seafarers who rounded the Point in the 16th century. They made landfall in the lee of Table Mountain where the city of Cape Town grew from a small port servicing the ships on the Far East shipping lanes, to the bustling multi-cultural metropolis of today.
