Cape Town Safari Big 5 Animals

Big 5 Cape Town Safaris.
This is something you shouldn't miss! Scroll down and you'll see the various safari options available at the game reserve, plus a form which you can complete and submit for more information.

Groups are catered for on the game reserve at excellent rates.

Safari Game Drives
Morning and evening safari drives with qualified field rangers in open 4x4 vehicles. Game drives range between two and three hours duration, with refreshments such as sparkling wine, grape juice, water and snacks such as biltong (traditional cured dried meat) nuts and dried fruits served at various lookout points. Blankets and raincoats are made available to guests on the 4x4 vehicles. Wooden stepladders are also used to assist guests
from getting on and off the vehicles.

Cape Town Safaris on horse-back
A unique way to experience the wildlife on the Aquila Game Reserve and an excellent opportunity for photography. No experience is required. Minimum age requirement is 15 yrs old. There is a maximum of 9 people per horse-back safari, which is guided by experienced rangers. Duration: 2 hours.

Cape Town Safaris on quad bikes
Try this for a safari with a difference. Minimum age requirement is 16 yrs old. There is a maximum of 10 people per safari led by two rangers. 1 person per vehicle. Duration: 2 hours

Self-Drive, or transport provided
You could drive yourself to the game reserve, but if required, a qualified Aquila driver will meet you at your hotel, and you'll be transported in comfort over the scenic Du Toits kloof Pass and through the winelands to the Game Reserve. A welcome cocktail will await your arrival whilst you relax by the rock swimming pool in summer, or enjoy a roaring log fire in the cigar bar or lounge in winter.

Cape Town Safaris Options
The Aquila Game Reserve has several safari package options on offer. These enable you to appreciate the experience in a way that best suits your interests and schedules.

One Day Safari

These are offered with or without transport to the reserve – self-drive guests are advised to depart Cape Town approximately the same time as the tour provided with transport, in order to arrive at the reserve on time, because game drives begin and meals are served at set times daily.

Overnight Safari
Self drive guests to check in at 14h00 and check out next morning at 10h00.

Day one
If you are using the Aquila transport, then our driver will meet you at your hotel, and transport you to Aquila Game Reserve Cape Town.
14h00: Check in at the Game Reserve. A welcome cocktail will await your arrival whilst you relax by the rock swimming pool in summer, or you can enjoy a roaring log fire in our cigar bar or lounge in winter.
16h00: Depart for a two to three-hour game drive with one of our experienced rangers also visiting our world-renowned Khoi San Bushman rock art sites. Snacks and champagne will be served at the foot of a once inhabited Khoi San Bushman cave.(Drinks & snacks are served at various look out points along the route, not at the cave)
19h00:Return to the lodge and restaurant for an authentic African dinner or traditional South African braai (barbecue) in our lapa (weather permitting), overnight in one of our Luxury or Premier Luxury Cottages.


Day two
06h30: Early morning game drive, coffee and rusks served en route.
09h00: Buffet Breakfast.
10H00: Check out of Aquila Private Game Reserve.
13h00: Buffet lunch served in the African boma restaurant.
After lunch guests are welcome to use the pool facilities and are encouraged to visit our African curio shop.
For guests using the Aquila transport you will depart the reserve at 15h00.


Your safari could be extended to another day if required.

Horse Trail Safaris
Horse trails are available for evening and early morning game viewing.

Game viewing on horseback is an unforgettable experience as one can get so much closer to the wildlife. It has been described as an epic experience and adventure. Picnics at our rock-pools or lookout lapas, as well as overnight mountain horseback safaris can be arranged.

Day-Combo safari
As the name suggests, this safari offers you a game drive and a horse-back safari combined. You get a three-hour game drive with one of our experienced rangers and visit our world-renowned Khoi San Bushmen rock art sites.

Self-drive guests have the option to do another activity after lunch such as horse-back or quad-bike safari, which are all naturally subject to availability. Price on application.

Safari Conferencing
The Game Reserve also offers a Conference Centre which is built from natural materials from the area. Delegates are provided with a scenic and relaxing setting in which to host business seminars, special events and team building functions, while also enjoying a Cape Town safaris experience.
